Weddings at Gather on Maui
Gather on Maui is one of those venues that gives couples several very different ways to shape the day within the same property. Set above Wailea on the Gold and Emerald Golf Courses, the restaurant and event spaces look out toward the Pacific, Haleakalā, and Molokini, so the setting can feel open and expansive without losing the convenience of having food, gathering spaces, and reception options close together.
What I like most from a photography standpoint is how much variety there is without needing to spend a lot of time traveling between locations. You can move from an intimate first look or small dinner by the pond, to a ceremony on the Wedding Knoll, and a reception closer to the restaurant, all while keeping the day connected and easy to move through.
Wedding Knoll
The Wedding Knoll is one of the spaces that gives Gather its open South Maui feel. It works well for ceremonies because the views stretch out toward the ocean while the lawn keeps the setup simple and easy for guests to move through.
From a photography standpoint, I pay close attention to where the ceremony is facing and how the afternoon light is falling across the lawn. The openness is beautiful, but it also means the sun, clouds, and wind can change the look of the space quickly. When the timing is right, the knoll gives us a clean ceremony setting with Maui filling the background rather than competing with it.
Molokini Lookout
Molokini Lookout feels much more expansive than the areas closer to the restaurant. Gather positions it as one of its largest event spaces, and the elevated location opens up broad views across South Maui and toward Molokini. Gather also requires a licensed planner or coordinator for events held there because of the additional setup and logistical planning involved.
Photographically, it is one of the best places on the property for showing the scale of the landscape. I like using it for wide portraits and moments where I want the couple to feel small against the Maui scenery. Because it is more exposed and elevated, I am also thinking about wind, cloud movement, and how much time we realistically need to get there without pulling the couple away from the rest of the day for too long.
Lower Reception Area
The lower event areas give couples a natural place to move into dinner and the reception after the ceremony. Gather’s current event options combine spaces such as the Lower Pond, Upper Pond, South Lanai, and other nearby areas depending on the size and style of the event.
I like this part of the property because it keeps the evening connected. Guests can settle into dinner and dancing without a major location change, while we still have quick access to nearby outdoor areas if the light gets especially good or the couple wants a few more portraits before the evening fully gets underway.
Restaurant Buyout
Gather also offers restaurant-only and full venue buyout options, which gives couples the ability to build the reception around the restaurant itself. Their current event information lists a restaurant-only buyout for the dining room and restaurant lanai, as well as an exclusive venue buyout for larger events.
From a photography standpoint, the restaurant gives the evening a completely different feel from the outdoor ceremony spaces. It works well for couples who want the day to begin outside with Maui views and then transition into a more social, dining-focused reception without sending guests somewhere else.
