Weddings at Maui Pineapple Chapel
Maui Pineapple Chapel is one of those venues that can feel completely different depending on how a couple chooses to use it. The historic chapel can serve as the ceremony space, a reception space, or simply a place for getting ready, while the surrounding lawns open the property up for larger outdoor ceremonies and receptions. The venue describes the chapel as a 1,500-square-foot historic space with bright natural light, white walls, warm wood floors and ceilings, and a flexible layout that can work for more than just a ceremony.
From a photography standpoint, I like that the property gives you both structure and openness. The chapel has its own character, but once you step outside, the lawns and ocean views make the day feel much larger and more connected to West Maui.
The Chapel
The chapel is the heart of the property and one of its most flexible spaces. It was originally built in the 1950s and later adapted into the wedding and event venue couples use today. The venue itself highlights the chapel as a bright, adaptable space that can work for ceremonies, receptions, rehearsals, or other parts of the day.
Photographically, the large amount of natural light is one of the things I appreciate most. The simple white walls and warm wood keep the space clean and timeless, which works well for getting-ready photographs or portraits even when the ceremony is happening outdoors.
Mauʻu Terrace
The Mauʻu Terrace sits outside the chapel and looks out toward the Pacific. The venue describes the terrace as an open garden space where the manicured lawns meet wide ocean views, and it is included in its ceremony and reception options.
This area works especially well for outdoor ceremonies or cocktail hour because it keeps guests close to the chapel while still giving the wedding a strong sense of place. From a photography standpoint, I am usually watching the afternoon light and wind here, because both can change quickly and have a big effect on how the ceremony looks.
Makai Lawn
The Makai Lawn is where Maui Pineapple Chapel really opens up. The venue currently lists it as its larger outdoor reception space, with room for events of up to 500 guests when tented.
For a wedding, that amount of space gives couples a lot of freedom in how they want the reception to look and feel. Tables, dancing, dinner, and tenting can all be arranged without the event feeling compressed. The lawn also gives us broad ocean views and, on clear days, views toward Molokaʻi, which can be especially beautiful later in the afternoon as the light starts to soften.
From a photography standpoint, I like that we can move from the more intimate chapel environment into a reception that feels completely open and expansive without ever leaving the property.
