Hotel Wailea gives couples a lot of variety without needing to leave the property. The Sunset Lawn is one of the standout ceremony spaces, with open views toward the Pacific, Molokini, and the West Maui Mountains. The Treehouse feels completely different, more private and tucked away, surrounded by mango and avocado trees with ocean views through the canopy.

Around the rest of the property, there are plenty of options for portraits, from landscaped pathways and architecture to quieter garden areas and ocean-facing spaces. That variety is one of the things I enjoy most about photographing weddings here because we can create very different looks throughout the day without losing time traveling between locations.

From a photography standpoint, I am also thinking about how the light changes across the property, where portraits fit naturally into the timeline, and how the ceremony and reception spaces connect. Hotel Wailea gives us a lot to work with while still keeping the day feeling relaxed and easy to move through.

Sunset Lawn

The Sunset Lawn is one of Hotel Wailea’s signature ceremony spaces, with sweeping views toward the Pacific, Molokini Crater, and the West Maui Mountains. Hotel Wailea lists it for events of up to 150 seated guests, so it can work for anything from an intimate ceremony to a larger wedding.

From a photography standpoint, I like how open the lawn feels and how much of Maui becomes part of the background. Because the ceremony area is exposed to changing afternoon light, I pay close attention to ceremony direction, cloud cover, and where the sun will be as the day moves toward sunset.

The Treehouse

PRIVATE, INTIMATE & SURROUNDED BY GREENERY

The Treehouse feels almost like its own world within Hotel Wailea. It sits beneath a canopy of mango and avocado trees with ocean views through the surrounding greenery, and the hotel positions it for smaller ceremonies, private cocktail gatherings, and intimate dining experiences.

Photographically, it has a completely different mood from the Sunset Lawn. The surrounding trees create a more enclosed and private feeling, while the wood structure, staircase, and changing light through the canopy give us a lot to work with visually. For couples planning something smaller, it can feel especially personal without losing that sense of being on Maui.

Around the Property

One of my favorite things about Hotel Wailea is how many different environments are available within the property itself. Beyond the Sunset Lawn and Treehouse, the resort includes landscaped gardens, stone and wood architecture, the Anuhea Ballroom, The Birdcage, and other spaces that each feel visually distinct.

That variety means we can move through the property and create very different portraits without building extra driving time into the wedding day. I am usually looking for a mix of open views, quieter shaded areas, architectural lines, and whatever the light is doing naturally at that moment.
