Maui Wedding Venues & Locations

Maui has a wide range of locations - from established venues and private properties to beaches and outdoor settings. I created this page to share the places I’ve photographed and practical insight from working in them firsthand. I’ve photographed weddings on Maui since 2014. My goal is to help couples understand how different settings shape the look, flow, and experience of the day so you can choose what feels right.

Choosing Where to Get Married on Maui

VENUES, BEACHES & PRIVATE PROPERTY

There is no single “best” Maui wedding location. A resort can make logistics easier for a larger guest list, while an estate often offers more privacy and room for a full-day experience. A beach can feel simple and intimate, but access, crowds, permits, and commercial-use rules all need to be considered.
When I photograph a wedding, I look at the location as part of the timeline and logistics. Where the ceremony faces, when the light hits the space, how long it takes to reach portraits, whether commercial photography is allowed, and whether sunset is actually visible all influence when the important parts of the day should happen.

Hotel Wailea

An intimate adults-only resort in South Maui with landscaped grounds, ocean views, and several distinct areas for ceremonies, portraits, and receptions.

Gather On Maui

A South Maui venue with ocean views, open lawns, and a setting that works well when ceremony timing is planned around the afternoon light.

Waiohuli

A local Upcountry Maui venue in Kula with sweeping island views, a relaxed community setting, and some of the most beautiful sunset light on Maui.

Olowalu Plantation House

One of Maui’s most recognizable oceanfront wedding properties, combining a historic plantation home, mature trees, open lawn, and direct access to the coastline.

Sugar Beach Events

A South Maui event property with direct ocean access, a private lawn, indoor reception space, and easy access to sunset portraits.

King Kamehameha Golf Club

An Upcountry Maui venue with dramatic architecture and expansive views across Central Maui, with very different light and weather conditions from the coast.

Maui Beach & Outdoor Locations
BEACHES, COASTLINES & OUTDOOR SETTINGS
A Maui beach can feel simple and intimate, but the location still shapes the day. Parking, public access, tides, wind, crowds, shade, walking conditions, and the direction of sunset all affect how comfortable it feels and how it photographs.
Public beaches also offer less privacy than a private venue, and two stretches of coastline that look similar on a map can feel completely different at the same time of day. When I help couples choose a beach, I’m thinking about both the photographs and how the space will actually work for the people attending.

Permits, Public Land & Private Properties

Maui locations have different requirements depending on who manages the property. Public beaches, State land, County areas, resorts, and private properties do not all follow the same rules.
Some locations need a commercial photography permit, while private venues may require proof of liability insurance or prior approval. For example, Twin Falls is maintained and cared for by Wailele Farm. Any commercial photography there requires their permission and a fee - a relationship I’ve built over the years so the process stays smooth for my clients.
I treat these requirements as part of working professionally on Maui and make sure photography follows the rules of each specific location.
