My very first engagement shoot in the clouds.

The island of Maui has so much potential to provide unique backdrops for capturing beautiful photos other than the beach or waterfalls. Mavrick and Kamalei knew that their engagement shoot was to be set somewhere upcountry, in the Kula area, for that warm, country-side look. As we drove up Haleakala, I noticed that the clouds were hanging pretty low, just above our meeting spot. This spot was to feature a gorgeous view of the Valley Isle. However, once we arrived there I asked if they wanted to take a short drive further up the mountain to see if we could actually get ourselves into the clouds. After a quick chat, both of them agreed and up to the clouds we went.

Grey skies.

As expected, we were able to successfully climb high enough on the mountain so that our surroundings disappeared into grey skies. It was so incredibly peaceful and serene; we had such a calm and enjoyable time together. For a moment, during the last minutes of the sunset, the clouds broke apart letting in a stream of gorgeous warm sunlight that we quickly took advantage of as it gently faded away.
