Maui Wildfires | Update 1

Hey everyone, this is the first video I created in order to share information about what's happening in Maui. Currently, I'm uploading these videos to my Instagram first, before other platforms, so if you'd like to be kept up to date in real-time, please consider following me on Instagram. I know that the news organizations are here, doing their thing, but my goal is to share the story from a "person living on Maui" perspective. There are so many stories and efforts being made right now that I think people need to see and be aware of. The best thing we can do right now is to keep watching and sharing videos and making donations to any of the organizations listed below. Please reach out to me if you have any other questions.

Maui Wildfires | Update 2

Hey everyone, here is my second update. This video shows you just ONE of the MANY efforts happening across the island of local people and local businesses doing what they can to bring relief to those on the west side. Again, information and situations will continue to change and evolve over the course of this disaster, and boat runs may not be necessary in the coming weeks. The main thing is that the people of Maui are doing everything they can to help those in need.

If you'd like to donate to the Pacific Whale Foundation, use this donation link.

Maui Wildfires | Update 3

In today's update, I provide a brief look into the ongoing recovery efforts after the devastating wildfires. Join me as I share my firsthand experience at the Lahaina Gateway with Mauliola Pharmacy, witnessing the incredible medical care, provided by the Maui healthcare community, to victims in need. Experience how Mauliola Pharmacy has gone above and beyond by waving copay fees for prescription medicines, allowing individuals to focus on healing. The stories of resilience and unity within the community are truly inspiring, showcasing the strength that emerges in challenging times. Together, let’s support and spread awareness of the local efforts for a brighter future in Maui. Things are evolving day to day, and during my time recording/editing, several key pieces of information were updated, which had me introduce some text on the video to correct what I had recorded.

You can contact Mauliola Pharmacy here.

STATUS UPDATE ON WATER ON THE WEST SIDE

This information is current, as of 8/25/23 at 4 pm.

UPDATE: FOR ALL AREAS NORTH OF KANIAU ROAD INCLUDING KANIAU ROAD THE ADVISORY DOES NOT APPLY

INTERACTIVE MAP

The Lahaina water system experienced wildfire impacts and may have fire-related contamination. As a precautionary measure, this notice is being issued until test data is available.

DO NOT DRINK-DO NOT BOIL YOUR WATER

Failure to follow this advisory could result in illness.

Due to the Lahaina wildfire, some structures in the Lahaina water system were destroyed by the fire, and some areas in the water system lost pressure. These conditions may have caused harmful contaminants, including benzene and other volatile organic chemicals (VOCs), to enter the water system. As a precaution, the State of Hawaii Department of Health, and the County of Maui Department of Water Supply are advising residents of the affected area to NOT USE THE TAP WATER FOR DRINKING AND COOKING UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.

In addition, residents are advised to:

  • Limit use of hot water
  • Limit shower time/bathing (use lukewarm water and ventilate area)
  • Use a dishwasher to wash dishes and use air dry setting
  • Wash clothing in cold water
  • Avoid using clothes dryers (dry laundry outdoors)
  • Do not take baths
  • Do not use hot tubs or swimming pools
  • Do not use ice from automatic ice makers
  • Use proper ventilation when using water indoors

What should I do?

DO NOT DRINK YOUR TAP WATER – USE ONLY BOTTLED WATER. Bottled water should be used for all drinking (including baby formula and juice), brushing teeth, and making ice and food preparation until further notice

DO NOT TRY AND TREAT THE WATER YOURSELF. Boiling, freezing, filtering, adding chlorine or other disinfectants, or letting water stand will not make the water safe.

Potable water is available at the following locations:

 Crater Road

Copp Road

Rice Park

Holy Ghost Church

Ching Store

Ulupalakua Ranch Store

st Maui

 Puamana St.

 Kahoma Village

Lahaina Gateway Shopping Center

Honokohau

Please bring a clean water container (5 gallons maximum capacity).

UPDATES TO THIS ADVISORY WILL BE PROVIDED BASED ON MONITORING RESULTS.
